At Grey Sloan Memorial, saying “goodbye” is never easy, but Kelly McCreary’s departure will be particularly difficult. On March 17, Deadline reported that McCreary would be leaving “Grey’s Anatomy” after nine seasons as a series regular. During Season 10, the actor has played Maggie Pierce, the half-sister of Meredith Grey, the previous major character of the series played by Ellen Pompeo.

McCreary will no longer be a regular on the show as of April 13, although she will still make appearances in later episodes to “visit the doctors of Grey Sloan” throughout the season.

McCreary discussed the highs and lows of her character’s story throughout the ABC drama series in a post that was published on Instagram. She captioned the photo, “Nine seasons, 200 episodes, dozens of delightful sister house scenarios, dozens of heroic procedures, dozens of brave patients. “One episode with my real sister, some loss and some pain, a few phantom mother visits, a couple of boyfriends, two beautiful weddings, and a bunch of drunken emotional breakdowns.”

“One episode with my real-life sister, some loss and some pain, a few ghostly mother visits, a few boyfriends, two beautiful weddings, a bunch of drunk emotional people, and a few boyfriends,” She said, “One high-speed chase, a few awkward dinner parties, one punch taken, one punch thrown, at least one pratfall, buckets of tears. Many fits of laughter, mastery of all medical terminology, a large group of lifelong friends, a plethora of collaborators who helped me develop as an artist, a grateful heart, and one enormous smile.

McCreary reportedly “approached the producers” of the show about her “want to quit and pursue other possibilities” before she left, according to Deadline. Because of this, the creators of the show created the Season 19 plot for her character in a way that could lead to her demise.

In a different message made available by Deadline, McCreary reminisced on her experience working on the show and thanked Shonda Rhimes, Krista Vernoff, ABC, and the show’s viewers for their support.

In her statement, McCreary stated, “It has been an incredible honour to be a part of such a great television institution as Grey’s Anatomy. “To spend nine years getting to know a character through and out while telling powerful stories that affect people all around the world is a unique gift. It has given me the chance to work with, absorb knowledge from, and be inspired by numerous talented artists, both in front of and behind the camera.

McCreary continued by calling her work as Maggie’s portrayer “one of the genuine delights” of her life.

She said at the end, “I leave with tremendous thanks for every step of our trip. “I am looking forward to this new chapter and what is ahead.”

The most recent cast member to leave the venerable medical drama is McCreary. Pompeo, who has played the show’s lead since its 2005 premiere, said last November that she will be leaving her role as a series regular.
